So I’m always getting stew meat whenever I go to the store. Most of the time because stew is a simple easy meal to make on a cold day. But then there are other days where I just think “man, there has got to be something else you can do with stew meat other than just make stew. I thought of stir fry, but that didn’t sound that good. I haven’t gone to the store lately so I didn’t exactly have the veggies I would have liked to put in it. So then I was looking at pintrest. Putting some of my newer blogs on it, and I noticed “beef tips with gravy over rice” well that looked just scrumptious! I had all the ingredients, that hardly ever happened! It was like a sign I must make this meal tonight!
It called for:
Stew meat ( I used 2 packs of it)
1 2/3 (or 14 OZ) of Beef Broth
1 cup of water
Onion Soup Mix
1 C rice
Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder to taste
Oil (I used veggie Oil)
So In the recipe it tells you to brown the stew meat in a pan. And then do everything else in another pan. But that didn’t make any since to me. If you did it all in the same pot/pan, then you have all the yummy tasty bits from browning the meat at the bottom for extra flavor! So, I changed it around a bit and did everything (accept make the rice) in one pot.
I put a little oil in the pot, and threw in my seasoned beef over medium high heat. Once it was all brown, I removed it from the heat, as well as any extra oil. That’s when I put in the beef broth, and the soup mix, and ½ cup of water. Mix it up and put meat back in and put over low heat, for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
After time has passed, increase the heat to a medium high so it starts boiling, and with the last ½ cup of water add 2 TBSP of cornstarch and mix well into a smooth mixture, and add to meat and gravy. Serve over rice or noodles and enjoy!
Personally, this was a delicious meal. I did make a mistake however when I seasoned the beef, I added a tad to much salt, not thinking that the broth and soup mix both had salt in it as well. Next time I will be adding just a tad less and I think it will be perfecto!
